As You Are: A Hope for Black Sons

Will the world keep its smile and say you're worthy, as a boy, as a teen, as a man? Will the world greet you kindly morning and night, as you let go of my hand? I can't control what the world will do, my child, so remember these words I say to you. Every Black mother wishes the world could see her son as she sees him. All too soon, it seems to forget the innocent child she has known and loved since before his birth. To prepare him as he's about to take on the world, a mother shares her heartfelt wisdom that she hopes her child carries with him alwaysCto embrace the world when it is kind, to know that he is worthy when the world is not, and to remember that her love will never waver.
